We designed and produced a POC of our Forest Planting Machine concept, an ecological, economical, efficient and versatile mechanized planting solution. Its a compact, 1-seater, all-terrain tree-planting vehicle thats also approved for road use. Its powertrain is hybrid electric + hydrogen, which means: 0 emissions, 0 pollution, efficiency and silent operation. It enables gentle, close-to-nature forestry, and can plant up to 1,600 seedlings a day, i.e. ~ 1 ha, with 20 different species.

Manual planting faces problems of labor availability and planting quality. It is a seasonal, arduous and poorly-paid profession. Existing mechanized planting solutions are not satisfactory either. They are based on machines designed for timber harvesting, and are therefore extremely heavy, expensive and fuel-hungry.

We have developed a 100% electric, vehicle-mounted planting controller. The automatons on-board computer hosts specially developed software. It sets the various actuators to music to complete the planting cycle. We chose Igus Drylin products: SLW-S linear module, DLE-RG 3-axis Cartesian gantry and igubal® plummer blocks. Embedded in our first prototype, our plantation POC presented at Viva Tech, it will enable us to test and validate the heart of the machine. Well be assessing the performance of the planting function in terms of cycle time, robustness and versatility. Well also be assessing planting quality.
