Cook-es robotized kitchen prepares fresh, healthy dishes 100% autonomously from A to Z, enabling restaurateurs of all kinds to overcome shortages of qualified staff and generate additional income. To enable this little marvel of technology to demonstrate its culinary talents in restaurants with limited space, the engineers called on igus compact and hygienic linear toothed belt modules.
One of the major technical issues for this robot is the need to collect the various ingredients in dedicated tanks and pour them into the pans to enable the dishes to be cooked. This is the machine's core system, so it needs to be highly reliable, fast to enable the machine's efficiency, hygienic for food safety and, if possible, compact.
Cook-e's robotized kitchen has been designed to take up as little space as possible, so that as many restaurants as possible can take advantage of automation without having to knock down partitions or make rearranging efforts. Especially in big cities, where leases are very expensive and kitchens are often tiny. All the components, from the ingredient storage tanks to the mechanism for positioning the dosing bucket, have therefore been designed to meet this requirement for compactness. At first, engineers considered using linear guidance with ball-bearing mounted carriages. However, this solution would have taken up too much space. The engineers therefore opted for a different solution: electrically driven toothed-belt linear modules from the drylin ZLW series, combined with a D2 controller from Igus. This compact, fast and grease-free solution ticked all the boxes
