feinarbyte has developed a system that is used to place drum cymbals at defined locations and to receive a uniform impact. To achieve comparable striking angles, the contours of a cymbal are optically measured at the beginning of the process. A recording is made of the tone for each strike.
Problem:
A web application in Thomann’s store is designed to allow the customer to compare the sounds of various cymbals. For it to work, a large number of cymbals must be struck with comparable force at defined locations and a recording made of each tone produced.
The number of different cymbals multiplied by the striking positions and the various striking strengths yields a relatively large amount of recording effort. Moreover, even experienced musicians are not always able to strike comparable points accurately and with exactly the same force.
That is why we chose to develop an automatic system to perform the task properly.
Solution:
It can be assumed that customers are more willing to purchase musical instruments online if they have the opportunity to test and compare products. This may further reduce the rate at which instruments are returned, lowering costs and benefiting the environment.
