Purpose AM Systems has developed automation solutions for 3D printing. Automated gantry is connected to each 3D printer before the print job starts the gantry inserts new built plate after the print job is finished, the gantry takes build plate and moves it to storage. It can be scaled up to 50 3D printers. Combined with filament dryers, scanners, or different types of 3D printers (SLS, FFF, SLA) etc. 24/7 production solutions with 3D printers with trackable storage.

Award ID: 687 Company: Inventas AS / Tore Eide

Inventas has, together with Hycast, developed an automatic preparation and inspection system for the aluminum ingot casting process. The system consists of a lightweight xyz-manipulator setup, integrated within the casting machine. All initial tests were done with Igus rails, and driven by tooted belts and stepper motors. A tool-change mechanism and inspection cameras were tested for flexible and agile inspection and preparation of the casting process. Images from the cameras are processed and analyzed for detecting remains of water in the molds before casting (HSE), and for detecting defects in surface structure and other signs of possible spontaneous outpouring of liquid aluminum during casting.
The casting process is water-cooled, and even small remains of water in the molds could lead to massive explosions when exposed to liquid aluminum.

The Igus Robot has been included in a concept that has been designed specifically for the emerging cannabis industry. The line concept is to package ‘joints’ into trays of 3 or 5 units, seal the tray (with a foil heat seal) and place the trays into cardboard cartons ready for final packaging.

The Robot is placed in line with other packaging machinery, downstream from CME’s making machine, the Autocone. The robot will be fitted with a stepper or servo motor for a 4th axis of movement and a gripper assembly for picking one joint at a time.
The robot communicates with a camera vision system to ensure effective picking of joints from the conveyor belt and subsequent placement into final trays.

In the industry, batteries are tested for several batteries together, so if one of them is inadequate, the problem is that we no longer have enough batteries to put them in the box. Therefore, these batteries are disposed of in an additional landfill where we need an additional robot to put the batteries in a box. In order to optimize and reduce the battery sorting, we thought of sorting one battery at a time. So we had to imagine a whole new look and function of the device in general.

Using a Beckhoff-PLC to control a 4-axis IGUS-robot using the new kinematic transformation libraries.

The goal is constructing a demo pick-and-place system for IGUS to be used at demofairs. Keep in mind that this a schoolproject that has to be finished by the end of june so the demo is no fully functional yet. For now the robot can pick up one item and place it in a holder. The full system will be able to pick up four items of different colours and place it in four different holders.
